UMAREX at IWA 2026: why specialist retailers should visit

For most companies in the shooting industry – whether they be manufacturers, wholesalers, or retailers – IWA OutdoorClassics is a regular mark in the calendar that they don’t want to miss. But for the German company Umarex, experts in airguns, airsoft, self-defense devices, OEM-produced firearms, and less-lethal products for law enforcement, the show is much more than that.

The Umarex trade fair team is fully committed to the IWA OutdoorClassics every year.

The company is the only one that has exhibited continuously at every IWA show since the very first in 1974, including the Covid-affected year of 2021, proving that the two entities go hand-in-hand, working together toward a strong future for the shooting industry. And the next IWA OutdoorClassics show from February 26 to March 1, 2026 will be no different. Umarex will be there with a strong presence, a wide range of exciting products, and a clear vision to enhance its partnerships within the shooting trade.

IWA is much more than just a show, it’s a strategic workspace for retailers, distributors, and manufacturers like Umarex to help forge the future of the industry and figure out new, collaborative ways to tackle the problems ahead. In short, if you attend IWA and you don’t include a visit to the Umarex booth as part of your visit, you are missing out on some of the very essence of what the show is about. But before we dive deep into why brands like Umarex make IWA an unmissable trip in your working year, it’s time for a history lesson…

The Umarex origin story

Think of the airgun market, and there’s a very good chance that the name Umarex is one of the first that comes to mind. The German-based firm has been on an impressive journey over the past 50 years to become world’s leading manufacturers of recreational guns and self-protection devices. Umarex began by seizing the opportunity in a challenge for the firearms market. In 1972, a law was passed in Germany that required permits for firearms. This more restrictive law left a gap in the market, which Umarex quickly filled by producing blank-firing guns and airguns that could still be purchased over the counter legally, satisfying the demand from consumers.

By 1978, Umarex’s success in this sector led it to adopt a licensing strategy that saw it create airgun and blank-firing replicas of many famous firearms from around the world. One of the most iconic early models was the Sherlock Holmes Revolver, a stunning .22 blank-firing pistol that came supplied in a book-shaped case with a magnifying glass. A license fee of 25 pence from each of the 80,000 sold per year went to the family of Sherlock Holmes’ creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – and so began Umarex’s pathway to becoming a leader in airguns and replica guns.
The journey since then has been littered with successes and important achievements for Umarex including the founding of Umarex Austria in Kufstein in 1985, the acquisition of Carl Walther and subsequent range expansion in 1993,  the founding of Umarex USA in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 2006, the acquisition of Röhm’s firearms division in 2010, the founding of Walther Arms also in Fort Smith in 2012, and the establishment of Umarex France in Nîmes in 2019. In 2022, Umarex celebrated its 50th anniversary by completing construction on a new state-of-the-art logistics and customer center, alongside a dedicated shooting academy.

Umarex at IWA 2026

And so, we reach the present day… With the 2026 edition of IWA OutdoorClassics looming on the horizon, what can we expect from the brand that has been welcoming professional visitors from the world of shooting sports every single year of the show’s existence?

“Visitors to our booth at the IWA can look forward to some real highlights – and to that special Umarex trade fair feeling,” explains Eyck Pflaumer, Managing Partner and CEO Umarex. “Once again, we will be showcasing exciting, high-margin innovations that will impress interested specialist retailers and offer real sales potential. In addition to innovative product premieres, we are expanding our successful product ranges with attractive additions that will bring new impetus to the shelves.

“Personal contact is just as important to us as our products: Our internal and external sales representatives are on hand to discuss opportunities, trends, and ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. And, of course, our expert booth team is on site to answer questions and present the latest innovations live at the booth. In short: A visit to Umarex is definitely worthwhile – for inspiration, exchange, and real added value for your business.”

The Umarex booth will be far more than just airguns - although that is, of course, what the brand is best known for, with some of the most recent revolutions, such as the compact  P2P MicroGuard for self-defense, the UX Stratix for airgun enthusiasts and ambitious recreational shooters, and the T4E Impax P68, specifically developed for MagFed paintball and realistic training scenarios. These will be complemented by truly remarkable highlights: a new series of Umarex compressors, highly detailed miniatures of historical firearm classics, and the Umarex Water Nozzle – a garden hose attachment featuring a professional pistol-grip design.  The company also has a comprehensive range of less-lethal self-defense products, including personal lights and sprays, an extensive collection of airsoft and paintball guns, and a series of other outdoor equipment, such as knives, multitools, binoculars, and spotting scopes. That's before you even consider accessories such as air compressors for PCP air rifles, silencers for airguns, and even targets. If you wanted to completely fill your store with Umarex products, it’s perfectly possible.

More than just a trade show

As you would expect from a brand that has made exhibiting at IWA part of its identity for almost its entire existence, Umarex is a big believer that in-person events offer benefits that no amount of virtual connection can match.

“For Umarex, the IWA is much more than just a trade fair – it is an important chapter in our company’s history and a highlight in our calendar every year,” continues Eyck Pflaumer.

“For decades, it has been the meeting place where we present innovations, cultivate partnerships, and shape the future together with our specialist retailers. Personal interaction is at the heart of what we do. It is always a great pleasure for us to welcome our international customers to Nuremberg and talk with them about opportunities, trends, and new ideas. At the same time, we would very much like to meet more German specialist retailers in person again – because it is this direct interaction that makes the IWA so special for us.”

Having the right assortment of products and the right focus on innovation is one thing, but being able to work closely together with industry partners around the world is something else. Something that companies such as Umarex still believe is best to do at trade shows.

Why airgun retailers should visit IWA

It goes without saying that any retailer who stocks or is thinking about stocking airguns in their store has a pretty good reason to visit IWA in 2026, with Umarex being among the headline exhibitors, but there are plenty of other reasons too.

The show will feature an improved layout, a series of information-packed talks and seminars, unrivaled networking opportunities, and some new features, including IWA Vision. But perhaps the most vital reason to visit is to strengthen the bonds that tie the industry together so we can ensure that businesses at every level of the chain are working together to protect, preserve, and prosper in the hunting and shooting industry.

Eyck Pflaumer concludes: “Like so many other sectors around the world, our industry is facing major challenges. That is precisely why it is more important than ever to maintain personal contact and to look ahead together. At IWA 2026, we intend to focus on valuable exchanges with our partners: talking openly about current issues, discussing future developments, and emerging from this period stronger together.”

“Of course, we will also use the trade fair to present our new products for 2026 – innovations that will inspire retailers and provide new impetus. But our real goal remains personal dialogue: Together with our partners, we want to create perspectives, deepen trust, and actively shape the future of our industry.”
