Peltonen Knives is focussing on one legendary knife: The Ranger Puukko. It was designed by a person who knows his way around dangerous situations and places where you need quality equipment: Juha-Pekka Peltonen
J-P Peltonen served in the Finnish army and was also a UN soldier in Cyprus and Sinai as well as with the UN observer group in Lebanon and Kashmir. Juha-Pekka Peltonen drew the inspiration for founding Peltonen Knives from his time as a military observer in Lebanon. In 1979, he saw a US service knife that made a lasting impression on him. The idea of a knife with similar characteristics, but adapted to the conditions of the North, has stayed with him ever since.
Another decisive motivation was a conversation with a Finnish lieutenant colonel who was stationed in the harsh conditions of northern Finland and emphasised the urgent need for a new knife. A knife that combined a robust structure with military practicality and all the features you would expect from a wilderness knife in Nordic conditions.
Thus began the story of Peltonen Knives and its long journey from the plains of the Middle East to the forests of Finland. The idea of a knife with similar characteristics, combined with Finnish knifemaking tradition, adapted to the conditions of the north.
J-P Peltonen finally developed it himself for the Finnish military in 1995. Today, Peltonen Knives has created an exciting range around this NATO-coded knife.
The Ranger Puukko was developed with functionality in mind - as a tool for professionals and a reliable companion for quality-conscious hunters and adventurers. The Ranger Puukko M07 (est. 2007), together with the slightly larger original version, the Ranger Puukko M95, has been on the market for many years and fulfils even the strictest requirements of international special forces (NATO stock number - 1095-58-001-7860).
It is ideal for civilian use (bushcraft, hunting, survival, tactical, hiking, camping). It is a knife designed for use in the Finnish, often quite ascetic wilderness. Carefully crafted and with precision selected high quality materials to meet the needs of the widest possible range of users. It represents a successful synthesis of traditional puukko (utility knife) and army knife (robustness). The Ranger Puukko presents Finnish knife art at its finest.

The knife sheath with the so-called EasyLock system also comes from the hands of J-P Peltonen. This invention ensures that the knife can be carried reliably in all positions and can be pulled out safely and quickly. Special army units, border police and armies from various countries became his customers. Even before it was used by Finnish or Estonian special forces, it was first and foremost Swedish special forces that used it, which was a fun fact.
