Walther, Lothar Feinwerkzeugbau GmbH

Lothar Walther, youngest son of the world-famous gun designer and company founder Carl Walther, grew up in a family that had been involved in gun manufacturing for generations. He founded his own company in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, on July 1, 1925. From the very beginning he focused on the development of button rifling in gun barrels. Over the years, he steadily expanded his capabilities in this area and established himself as a manufacturer of barrels, but also of components and entire firearms.

After the end of the Second World War and the associated resettlement to Königsbronn/Baden-Württemberg, Lothar Walther had to start all over again: Neither machines nor other equipment could be transferred fromThuringia, which had been occupied by the Soviet Union in the meantime.

With the support of his sons, the company developed over the following years from an artisanal business to a modern industrial company with Swabian virtues. In 1983, the founder of the company passed away. His son Klaus Walther continued to run the company and handed over the management to his two sonsDr. Frank Walther and Gerd Walther in 1995. Both had acquired broad experience in the field of technology and engineering through their previous work for various companies in Germany and abroad, which they could now apply to the further growth of the company.

In the same year, the company Lothar Walther Precion Tools Inc., based in Cumming, Georgia, was established to directly serve the ever growing US market.

Equipped with state of the art machinery,Lothar Walther currently manufactures barrels from special rifle steel and stainless steel in more than 240 different calibres.

Countless world, European and national championships as well as Olympic medals have been andcontinue to be won with Lothar Walther barrels.

In addition to the button rifling process, various calibers have been manufactured on a GFM cold forging machine since 2015, which are primarily intended for the law enforcement and defense sector.
