Single shot rifles are for purists: A barrel, a cartridge, a single lock – you do not really need more for hunting? Merkel proofs that this minimalist approach can be furtherly reduced: new single shot rifle K3 "Extreme" will be shown on IWA 2015. If you have it the first time in your hands, you won’t believe, that there exists a rifle lighter and easier to handle than this one. This 92 cm gun weights only 2.4 kilos - yet it is a complete hunting precision tool with some clever extras.
In the extreme variant, a short fluted barrel is installed: It is 10 centimeters shorter (51 cm length, 17 mm diameter), which increases the handiness in the mountains, on the high-seat and on transportation. The weapon can be disassembled and assembled easily – and put in the backpack. The caliber range of K3 extreme ranges from 6,5x57R 308 Win. to 8x57IRS.
A black system box and the fluted semiweight barrel gives this classic gun a functional and modern appearance - the look is combined with a fine walnut stock of wood class 4. The tilted block breech here optimises precision and is safe, because it locks the barrel steel on steel. On top of that the weight of the fine trigger is adjustable: The shooter itself can adjust it via a small lever in three stages. In the Extreme, the trigger and the tilted block is gold plated - a colored accent, which emphasizes the subtle elegance of this weapon.
