Cup-shaped bronze mortar barrel with reinforced lip and stepped, cylindrical chamber. Barrel-top totally engraved with trophies and blossom decor. Lock with semi-interior wheel, suspended frizzen with release button. Interior mechanism with remnants of old bluing. Walnut stock with rich inlays of engraved and blackened bone. Butt carved out in the shape of a sculptural dragon head, eyes and teeth as bone inlays. Stock with occasional, well-restored wormholes. Length 62.5 cm.
An extremely rare weapon for firing iron grenade balls. A similar specimen from the same workshop can be found in the collection of the Musée de l'Armée in Paris (Inv. M PO 2653).
