Atelier des Couteaux
France is a rich and diverse country, and its different regions all have their own history and traditions, their own unique landscapes and cultural treasures. In tribute to these distinctive local identities, we have created a range of pocket knives inspired by regional traditions. Hinges decorated with Breton ermines, chestnut leaves for Corrèze, Occitan cross.
Each knife captures something of the essence of its terroir.
L'Occitan is a classic yet original design, and a hinge adorned with the Occitan cross. This symbol represents Occitania, the historic region which covered the whole south of France where people spoke the Occitan langage ("oc" means "yes"), and is believed to have evolved from an ancient sun cross, with the 12 spheres representing the houses of the Zodiac..
