History of the FENIX Protector Company dates back to 80´s when its owner Martin Hanuš discovered for himself the outdoor world. Already at his young age, he became active paddler and climber. He participated in many expeditions abroad (Russia, USA) and international boating events, such as descending great mountain rivers of Siberia Katun, Cuja, Yenisei and more in the years of 1985 - 1990. These river descents took place in a now legendary four-cylinder boat Matilda, which was built with a significant contribution of Martin Hanuš. As regards the rock climbing events, it is worthy to mention in particular the Caucasus and Pamir ones.
By partaking in these events and organizing his own expeditions at a later date, he gained important experience and knowledge, both in terms of the organization itself and knowledge of the functionality of the equipment. With all these experiences, he became the member of the Material Equipment Committee of the Czechoslovak Sports Association.
At the time, the outdoor market offer was insufficient, and efforts to enhance the material equipment for expeditions often made their partakers to produce it by themselves. In 1985, Martin Hanuš appropriated his full salary for purchasing a German backpack Berghaus. Then he explored in detail the design, sewing technique and functionality of the backpack and got down to manufacture his own backpacks and climbing harnesses in the living room of his home.
At the beginning, he sewed equipment only for his friends, and owing to his successful results, he got addresses by increasingly growing number of interested persons. In the spring of 1989, this, at the time, still illegal business turned into trade permission granted by then National Committee, and shortly after the Velvet Revolution, the company Martin Hanuš - ALP was established in the spring of 1990. The original product range then included solely backpacks. The company purchased the necessary technological equipment and the backpack production of ALP brand drove to the fullest. In the 90´s, the ALP brand ranked among the most successful ones on the market. So far, it is still possible to meet many people with ALP backpacks in the woods and on the mountains, which were manufactured more than 20 years ago.
In 1995, Martin Hanuš was approached by the Czech army, because the ALP backpacks were evaluated as the best for in-depth exploration. And this is the first record of the history of the company as it developed up to the present.
Starting from 1995, the production of sports bags receded into the background, and the company started to focus exclusively on the military program. The cooperation with 601. Group of Special Forces, Chrudim paratroopers and other units in the country rat at full blast. Moreover, the Slovak Armed Forces, namely the 5th Regiment of Special Purpose and more showed interest in the ALP products, too.
The company focused primarily on the development and production of new backpacks for the ACR. The military production was soon completed with other products, such as tactical vests, pouches, accessories etc.
The ALP Company became a major supplier for the Czech Army with supplies of around 50 000 pcs of products in the years of 1996 – 2008, including mainly 30l, 60l and 120l backpacks and more. An important year was 2008, when the company delivered the complete equipment to the Army of the Slovak Republic (approximately 351 000 pcs of products). These included several types of backpacks, ballistic vests, tactical vests, pouches and accessories.
In the following years the ALP Company was the main supplier of equipment for the Army of the Slovak Republic.
Development of new products took place and still continues in collaboration with leading experts on military equipment. The company collaborates with members of military units, special units in Prostějov or Žilina or police, and members Task Force units. All products are tested in foreign missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Due to high demands for materials and processing of products, the company takes advantage of the world-class technology and high quality materials. The company currently focuses on complete equipment of soldiers both in special and standard units as well as on equipment for police and emergency units.
Due to developing business activities especially in the area of government contracts, the company Martin Hanuš - ALP transformed into the FENIX Protector s.r.o. in 2015. A change in the name and status of the company was made mainly due to the fact that the ALP brand was intended for outdoor production, while the FENIX Protector focuses exclusively on military and police equipment.
