The Mectron Qualifier "Q-5000-8" System is composed of two distinct sections: Laser Gauging with an eight laser 30mm capability for initial inspection of dimensions and Magnetic Imagery for both defects and metallurgical properties.
Laser Gauging involves measuring in three axes. Dimensions that may be accurately measured are diameters down the length of the part and lengths such as head thickness etc. Depending on the part configuration, the accuracy and repeatability on diameters is plus or minus (+.005mm). Laser Length Analyzer provides measurement of feature lengths, stack-up, head height and overall lengths with repeatability of ±.05mm.

Founded in 1968 by Jim, Carol and Mark Hanna, Mectron Inspection Systems is a family owned company that provides the most up-to-date inspection systems for fasteners, cold-formed and deep drawn products. Mectron, dedicated to research and development since its formation, continues to advance the field of high-speed inspection systems. Mectron Inspection System’s product development team has been awarded numerous patents on laser and eddy current inspection and continues to innovate with its current patent pending technology.
Mectron’s high-speed, quality control systems use eddy current, laser and vision to provide the most advanced inspection on the market today. Individual parts are scanned and measured as they pass through the high-speed systems and are sorted based on the standards set for each individual machine. Products are inspected for dimensions, foreign material, thread defects, part damage, metallurgical defects, hardness, cracks, surface defects and more.
Putting it’s own technology to use, Mectron’s in-house Inspection and Sorting Services provide manufacturers with high-speed dimensional and metallurgical production sorting using eddy current, metallurgical, and crack detection for zero defect performance of fasteners, ammunition, deep draw, aerospace and medical components. Products are inspected for foreign material, dimensional discrepancies, radial part damage, overall length, and metallurgical defects in large volumes at low cost to the customer.
