Established in 1997 as a company manufacturing sporting knives, Extrema Ratio focuses on producing medium to high range quality knives.
The production began using industrial procedures combined with a hand crafted finish, and this method continues to be used today. The only processes which are industrialized or automated are those that guarantee uniformity and a high production capacity, while the processes which guarantee the quality of each single piece remain hand crafted. Any work that in its nature requires the skill of the craftsman, such as sharpening the blades, is carried out exclusively by hand.
Following contact with some specialised Italian Units that commissioned some special blades, Extrema Ratio began to pay serious attention to the development of knives for military use. Thanks to the interaction with Italian armed forces and later with other international forces, the company accumulated, and continues to accumulate valuable experience and information which has allowed it to develop blades which are both truly valid and professional.
The company deals with the development, making of prototypes and production of knives for use by the military, police and emergency services. We produce knives according to the buyer's specifications, or develop new products for the solution of problems indicated by the purchaser.
What is unique about the company is that it has worked together with the armed forces with the intention, and consequent success, of raising the standard for the quality and functionality of modern military knives. This high quality has been achieved through the projects, the choice of the best materials and the latest treatments.
Thanks to the development of specific instruments, the company also carries out its own internal tests on the efficiency and resistance of the product. The company benefits from collaboration with the Faculty of Motor Sciences at Perugia University, which has dealt with the ergonomic aspects of its products: this has given them the indispensable capacity for interconnection with the user.
